La’i releases Daylight Breaks EP

GoSet is proud to announce the CD release of a fresh voice on the international music scene –  La’i (pronounced La-ee).  Growing up on the beaches of Australia and Hawaii, La’i has developed a signature sound that, combined with her pure voice, has drawn comparisons to her Hawaiian neighbour Jack Johnson and the late singer Eva Cassidy.  The Sydney and Boston based teenager’s debut EP, Daylight Breaks, is a collection of original songs and interpretations representing her life up until now.  The record has been named after the very first song La’i wrote at age 14 after a sleepless night.

A lot of my spare time at school was spent in a boarding house, sitting on my bed with my guitar and a notepad. I think these songs are warm and comfortable and I hope people will relate to them.

The collection of songs also includes pieces originally recorded by A Fine Frenzy, Lucie Silvas and Sarah Humphreys. Capturing the honesty and magic within her songs and interpretations, the first half of the Daylight Breaks EP was recorded with her high school guitar teacher Rory O’Donoghue. The second half of the EP was recorded live at Trackdown Studios during Lai’s first visit to a professional recording studio. The EP has been mixed by Kathy Naunton who is best known for her work on Missy Higgins’ recordings.  La’i has been playing shows with Danielle Gaha and Danielle Spencer.

La’i has found early support at local radio with two of her songs Place to Hide and Anywhere But here charting on the AirIT Airplay Charts: Top Ten Most Ordered Tracks for Radio airplay for consecutive weeks.  The EP debuted on iTunes top 5 singer/songwriter charts alongside Lai’s favourite artists, Laura Marling and Angus & Julia Stone.
La’i is currently on a scholarship at Berklee, the prestigious Boston based Music College whose alumni include John Mayer.  The physical CD of Daylight Breaks can be purchased HERE at the GoSet Store.  Digital copies can be downloaded from iTunes.
