Jane Walker – Walk Gently

Earthy and uplifting, Jane slips effortlessly across influences of jazz, electronica and classical to create a pop style all her own.  Definitely one not to miss.” – Claire Scobie, The Daily Telegraph UK

There is a beautiful clarity in Jane’s songwriting that is immediately apparent.” Damien Bracken, Dean of Admissions, Berklee College of Music, USA

GoSet Music is proud to announce the release of the highly anticipated debut album, Walk Gently, from Sydney singer-songwriter Jane Walker . Offering an intimate and uplifting cocktail of chill-out pop, Jane’s original music combines flavours reminiscent of Fiona Apple, Dido, Norah Jones, Sade and Carole King.

From Sydney to New York, London to Byron Bay, a buzz is building among the stellar cast of local and overseas talent who feature alongside Jane Walker on Walk Gently. Special guests include Chris Difford, from the legendary British pop band Squeeze, Norah Jones’ guitarist and New York-based artist Adam Levy, former Australian Idol contestant Bobby Flynn, Aboriginal hip hop artists Street Warriors, and The Cruel Sea’s James Cruickshank.

Jane’s album Walk Gently was recorded in two sessions four songs with UK producer Steve James at Rocking Horse Studios in Byron Bay, and eight songs with NZ producer Barbara Griffin, co-produced by Jane, at Billy Field’s Paradise Studios on the NSW Central Coast and in various studios in Sydney and the USA. Several of Jane’s songs were also penned during a writer’s retreat in Italy with contributions made from Oreste Gargaro and Chris Difford.

Lorda Omeissah of Goset Music said it’s this combination of fine musicians with Jane’s own searing talent that makes her album such a sensation.

“While the lyrics of the songs speak of love, longing and a universal search for identity, the music is energised with a potent mix of textures and influences,” she said.

Jane recently loaned her anthemic title track Walk Gently on the Earth to Not-For-Profit organisation Project Kaisei to raise funds for their environmentally driven activities.

Jane’s song Ancient Land, which features contribution from Street Warriors, is described by NSW Reconciliation Ambassador, Aden Ridgeway, as a timely celebration of Australian identity and a call to unity.

“Ancient Land  like the apology  gives a gentle power to a message whose time has finally come,” he said.

“It is such a pleasure to hear this album come to fruition,” said Damien Bracken, Dean of Admissions, Berklee College of Music, USA, whose alumni include John Mayer and Quincy Jones.

Her debut single, ‘Do it With Love’ was released to Australian radio and iTunes in February 2011, becoming one of the top ten hit-picks for The Music Network magazine, while the video attracted the production talents of 360Fashion Network’s founder, Anina.

Another song from the album, ‘All Acts of Love’ was released on Universal Music compilation Groove Operator in Poland in January 2011.

A regular on Australia’s live performance circuit, Jane has received accolades for her performances at locations as varied as Notes, Das Kapital and the Dreaming Festival, alongside artists including Holly Throsby, Bertie Blackman, Street Warriors and other talented artists.

Walk Gently, the debut album, is officially released to record stores and iTunes through GoSet Music 17 May 2011. CD copies are available here at the GoSet Store (insert link to store item).
